"I think I could beat Cayde in The Crucible."
A few days later...
Tumblr media
Him:"Aaaaaaand apparently I'm against Cayde...Not gonna lie though. I do like my odds here." 😏
Me:"Never bet against me."
The results:
Tumblr media
Now,this score normally wouldn't be anything to write home Tumblr about, but the situation in and of itself is (to me. I think this is hilarious and wanted to share.)
Technically, his score is lower than that because two of those defeats were because of my own hubris. I got cocky and was bounding around the map and bounded off of the ledge twice, which,if you think about it,was pretty on brand.
He spent the majority of the second half of the round hiding in his little bubble repeatedly asking where I was. My answer?
"I'm with you, kiddo. Your Light,is my Light. You're my favorite... don't ever forget that." promptly followed by me absolutely smoking him and winning the game.
I strike fear into this Titan's heart and the best part is,he forgets that fear the second we step out of the Crucible.

Artist Management 101: A Beginner's Guide
Tumblr media
Artist management is one of the most critical roles in the entertainment industry. Whether it's music, visual arts, or performance, the artist-manager relationship is pivotal in ensuring an artist's success. If you're new to the world of artist management, this beginner's guide will walk you through the essentials.
What is Artist Management?
Artist management involves overseeing the business and career aspects of an artist. Managers are intermediaries between artists and various industry stakeholders, including record labels, booking agents, and promoters. Their primary goal is to help artists navigate the complex world of contracts, promotions, performances, and other business matters so that they can focus on their craft.
The Role of an Artist Manager
An artist manager wears many hats. They take on roles such as:
Business Advisor: Managers help artists make critical decisions regarding career direction, business deals, and contracts.
Negotiator: From securing record deals to negotiating tour contracts, managers ensure their artist gets the best possible terms.
Strategic Planner: They help map out the long-term vision of an artist’s career, whether it's securing brand partnerships, album releases, or expanding into new markets.
Public Relations Specialist: Managers often work closely with publicists to shape the artist’s public image and manage their presence across media platforms.
Financial Overseer: While managers may not be accountants, they often monitor an artist’s earnings, help manage budgets, and ensure financial health.
The Importance of Trust
The relationship between an artist and their manager is built on trust. Managers need to believe in the artist’s talent and vision, while the artist must trust the manager to make the best decisions for their career. It’s not just a business relationship but a personal one as well. A manager is often the person an artist turns to for advice, support, and guidance.
Key Skills for Artist Managers
If you're considering stepping into the world of artist management, certain skills are crucial for success:
Networking: The entertainment industry is all about relationships. The more contacts you have, the more opportunities you can create for your artist.
Negotiation: Managers must be savvy negotiators to secure the best deals for their artists, whether it's for a recording contract, a tour, or a sponsorship deal.
Organisation: Artist managers juggle multiple tasks and responsibilities. Strong organisational skills are essential to stay on top of meetings, deadlines, and schedules.
Industry Knowledge: Understanding the intricacies of the entertainment industry, including trends, legalities, and new opportunities, is crucial for managing an artist effectively.

Building Your Artist’s Brand
One of the most important aspects of artist management is building and maintaining an artist's brand. This includes:
Developing a unique identity: An artist’s image should reflect their personality and style, which the manager helps craft and project to the world.
Social media presence: In today’s digital age, social media is essential. Managers must oversee and optimize social media accounts to grow an artist's fanbase.
Networking and partnerships: Strategic collaborations and partnerships can elevate an artist's profile and introduce them to new audiences.
Getting Started as a Manager
Starting a career in artist management can be challenging, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. To begin, you can either manage emerging talent or work your way up at a management firm. Building a portfolio of successful artist partnerships will open doors for more established artists down the line.
You may also need to familiarize yourself with the legal aspects of management, such as contract law, royalties, and licensing. Partnering with an entertainment lawyer or taking courses in music business management can help navigate the legal complexities.
Conclusion
Artist management is both an art and a science. It requires a passion for the craft, a deep understanding of the industry, and a commitment to helping artists achieve their dreams. If you're ready to dive into this exciting field, remember that it’s not just about managing the business; it’s about fostering an artist’s creative journey and guiding them toward long-term success. With the right skills, connections, and attitude, you can play an instrumental role in shaping the next big name in entertainment.

The role of an artist manager is:
Career Strategy, Planning and Plan Execution - The manager helps the artist determine where they want to take their career. Then he helps to map out how the artist is going to get there and the timeline for accomplishing it. Once the plan is in place, the manager puts the necessary pieces in place and the actions into motion. These can include things like helping the artist attract the right booking agency(s), making important industry connections, opening doors to valuable opportunities, and guiding the in marketing efforts until a marketing team is in place.
Day-To-Day Management - The manager ensures that all aspects of the artist’s business are handled and handled properly. This includes everything from ensuring the artist’s gigs go smoothly, making sure all calls and emails are responded to and nothing slips through the cracks, arranging for photo shoots and everything in between.  She also acts as the liaison with the artist’s record label.
Contract Negotiation - The manager often negotiates contracts on behalf of the artist. He often he has limited power of attorney to sign specific contracts. Depending on the management agreement they have, these may include performance contracts, a record label deal, licensing agreements, brand or image usage license and more. In most cases the manager will bring in an entertainment attorney to assist in these negotiations and review all agreements. This clause in the artist's management contract is negotiable.
Marketing/PR - The manager develops the artists marketing plan and coordinates all of the corresponding efforts. This may include managing the artist's website, guiding their social network presence, gig promotion and more. It is the manager’s job to ensure the artist is getting maximum positive exposure, and to deal with any negative press. This is most often accomplished with the aid of a PR or marketing firm.
Financial Guidance or Management - A manager directs, and sometimes handles the artist’s finances. He ensures that the artist is making money and remains profitable. He will set the budget and ensure that it is adhered to. He may approve, recommend or decline certain expenses. If designated in his contract, he may also pay all of the artist’s bills ranging from band member salaries to buying equipment. This role is rare with smaller artists and managers. Some managers also help the artists choose where to invest their money. Most often, when an act is big enough, a business manager is hired to handle the actual receipt and disbursement of money.
Risk Management - The manager puts everything in place that is necessary to minimize or eliminate any risks the artist may face. This includes protecting their intellectual property, having the proper insurance coverage, ensuring the artist is legally protected in every way, setting up the artist's corporation, ensuring safety precautions are adhered to at gigs, putting practices in place to avoid fraud or embezzlement etc.
Team Recruitment, Development & Coordination - The manager is responsible for recruiting and leading the right team members who can move the artist’s career forward. This can include a booking agency(s), PR team, entertainment attorney, marketing team, interns, business manager, coaches and instructors, band manager, tour manager etc. And unfortunately, at times a manager’s job may also seem to take on the role of ‘babysitter’ and/or mediator should any team members act ‘less than professionally’.
Income Maximization - I believe a primary role of a manager is to ensures that the artist is maximizing his or her income from every source possible. She ensures that no potential income streams slip through the cracks. This can include financial sources such as getting the best gigs, publishing administration, mechanical royalties, film and TV placements, registration with Sound Exchange, personal appearance opportunities, merchandise sales, brand licensing, film and TV roles etc. It also includes signing the right label deal, getting brand endorsements, getting features on other artist's releases and more.
Brand Development and Management - The manager ensures that the artist’s image is properly established, portrayed and protected. He protects and defends his artist’s reputation, handles negative publicity issues (often with a PR firm), seeks out positive publicity opportunities and protects his artist’s privacy as needed.
Friend, Confidant, Mentor, Life Coach -  Lastly, in many cases a manager becomes close to an artist on many levels. Mangers help their artists get through both business-related and personal tough or challenging times. They push them to stretch their self imposed limitations to try new things and reach new heights. They encourage them when things are not moving as quickly as hoped. Of course, it is important for artist and manager to always maintain a business/client relationship. This is why it is critical that both manager and artist trust each other 110%. The artist and manager need to be able to confide in each other. Complete honesty is necessary to move the artist’s career forward confidently and effectively.
